Liliane Lear – Embroidery Artist

Lear Claudio resizedFrom a distance, one would believe that Liliane Lear’s works were paintings in oils or acrylics, but on closer examination it becomes clear her media is thread. Liliane is an extrordianary embroiderer who has developed her own unique style, far removed from your usual grandmother’s embroidered tablecloths.

Liliane Lear was born and raised in rural Manitoba and studied Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba. She has been a Lear Eve2 resizedfull-time practicing artist for the past 40 years and is a prolific producer of work in a variety of media. In her early work she concentrated on photography, pencil drawings and oils on canvas, but has more recently shifted her efforts towards small and large-scale embroidery, closely stitched (a method she calls vraifil) mounted on Masonite board. Lear is represented by Lacosse Gallery in Winnipeg, Manitoba and has recently begun to exhibit work at various shows in Mississauga, Ontario, where she lives and works.
