Creating in wood is very inspiring. Studying different woods present a variety of challenges to me as a viewer and artist. My focus is to create 3 dimensional pieces that evoke impressions of nature. Using a variety of carving techniques and a diversity of specialized woods, the goal is to have the wood release forms, shapes and stories that are hidden inside waiting to be exposed. The sculptures are a study of living nature and provides the subject matter to my creativity. The elements and principles of design, especially textural and tactile components aid in the development of satisfying sculptural pieces.
